Cinderella isn't the girl's real name in the faerie tale, anyway, it's Ella. Her step-sisters made fun of the fact that she was filthy with cinders from the fireplace she had to clean, and nicknamed her Cinderella.

Because Ella Enchanted was intended as a retelling of the Cinderella story. All the similarities you noticed are completely intentional.

Ella enchanted is a cinderella story. It is a very intresting twist on the classic evil stepmother and overly obeidient yet wanting freedom stepdaughter. I loved the book and want to see the movie.

because there are only so many plot outlines that can be followed and Cinderella is the common rags to riches story etc.. just like why most love stories have the characters together and in love than they are separated by something and eventually they are brought back together. there are only so many ways to tell a story.

the writers said it was Cinderella with a twist...I guess they tried to tweak the original story a bit to make it interesting

because as most Hollywood films are, they do nothing but take the same stories and rewrite them over and over again to make new movies. originality is dead
