I don't really have the energy to get into specific bands right now, but I think a discussion is more appropriate on this topic, rather than ranking.

You qualify your question with "ever." Yet people are only listing bands that play popular music. While there are some good suggestions, I don't like to rank these kinds of things. You can discuss who you think is better and why, but to pick one group out of the history of music (or even the last 100 years) only unjustly excludes other highly deserving bands. It's reasonable to group bands together onto levels of greatness, but giving them a numerical rank is really just based on personal preference and not talent. I don't believe there can be "the best band ever musically," but there can definitely be a lot of discussion on who some of the great bands are based on their talent.

Critics and all the art-lovers know there is only one band - the creators of best musical album Dark Side of the Moon and they are called PINK FLOYD!

Thier artistic, trippy and rock stuff like Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Breathe, Echoes, Marooned, High Hopes, Time are some fine examples of what music is really about!

Many would say Guy Lombardo but Glenn Miller's ability to mix string parts into the horn section makes his music my favorite. I guess technically it is an orchestra, does that disqualify him???

I think my age is showing. I was actually born after Glenn's death but, like Elvis, Glenn's music will live on and on.

if music is what your rating on it would have to be an orchestra or a big band of some sort

because there are so many musicians with years of experience

but if your basing this on fame and talent..then sure the other posters have good bands..

The Best Musicians... I would have to give it to the Who. One of the best guitarists in Townsend, and near top rated bass player in Entwistle, best drummer in Moon, and a pretty strong singer in Daltrey

Queen - Freddie Mercury had the best voice ever, and Brian May's musicianship is top notch in my book.
