This would be in an apartment complex that is set up with all the land-lines feeding into a main hub in the office. I want to avoid getting a land-line if possible.

My apartment complex offers wireless high speed internet free, check to see if yours offers it wirelessly, and just get a wireless card. Many cell phone companies are offering 'high speed' wireless service for computers now too.

I would have to answer your question with a question.

I am assuming that by what you described, there is already cable internet going into the main hub in the office of the apartment complex. Does the complex have a wireless router available for you to use?

If yes, then you should only need to go out and buy a wireless card for your computer. Assuming that the wireless coverage reaches your apartment.

If no, then you have the option of requesting that they install a wireless router. Other than that your only other option would be what was already mentioned. Either Satellite or cellphone with a pc card.

If your main gripe is that you have a laptop and you just don't want to have to be connected to a wire all the time. You could just get a land line into your apartment and then buy a wireless router and card for your laptop so that you can use it wirelessly throughout the apartment.

A satellite tv for pc connection does not require a land line although the bit cost (%) is below DSL or cable. you should use your cellular instead of the land line. you are able to also use VOIP although the voice high quality may be undesirable via latency led to by technique of the added distance information ought to commute. Latency is not often significant with a knowledge transmission yet can a great deal cut back the standard of a 2 way voice communication. attempt it earlier you purchase.

all of the above are corect, other options are if you have a wirless card in your computer then it is possible to scan for other networks in the area, any unsecured networks will allow you to connect and use that internet source - if you set your own wirless network/router up my advice is to secure it
