Having lived in the US my whole life, the sport is not something that had caught my interest. I generally saw it as something little kids play and you don't pay too much attention to. Last summer during the World Cup, I took a trip to Italy. I was able to see the glory and passion that makes this sport so great. I have been excited to start playing ever since even though I have never touched a football (soccer) ball until now. What are some tips or suggestions to a new player?

I did order all of the channels right when I got back. It is difficult to find a place ot play pick-up games around here as the sport is so non-existant. We do have adult leagues though. Thanks for all of the advice.

It really depends on how old you are. If you are still in school then get some people from your school to go play soccer if they want to. If your school has a soccer team then try and join them or at least just go practice with them. Some videos and tapes are a good way to practice. Just start kicking a ball around your house and watch what the pros do and try doing that yourself. I hope you have fun, i love soccer.

I believe that foremost, you need to start going to pickup games where the game is played for fun and you will not feel pressure to perform to a certain level. Find games and play a lot. You could possibly even sign up for PE soccer classes in local community colleges.

Joining a recreational league is up to you, but I would recommend you play various pickup games for a while at first. That will build you up some skills, stamina and knowledge of game play. Watch soccer on GolTV or FSC on digital cable or satellite and go watch some leagues as well.

I am from Bulgaria and we are soccer-mad there too. We were always told that watching soccer is %50 of the learning of the game.

Good luck!

Join the YMCA or search your area for an Adult Rec league.

Basically be in good shape because you will be surprise how tired you will get playing football (soccer).

1st drill... Kick the ball against a sturdy wall like a block wall, dont use your toes! When the ball comes back to you, watch it hit the inside of your foot and kick it back against the wall.

it's sort of like baseball, keep your "eye on the ball"

WELCOME ABOARD, your going to have lots of fun!!!!
