Thank you supersonic...etc, that is a very detailed answer. You didn't mention easthetics. I still think it is interestin that stylists are trying to make things look nice while sticking to minimal principles and still have to consider ergonomics.

Geometric patterns have certain basic properties that separate them from the rest of the patterns and from each other. A circle, for example, is the pattern each point on which has the same distance from a certain point as every other point on the circle. If you are at the center of a circle, or, better, at the center of a semi-circle, you can do tasks faster because your body/hands are able to move within a 180 angle easily and you'll reach objects on the border of the semi-circle easier, without having any of them iin a way. One branch of Ergonomics does exactly this: finding ways to improve task-performing efficiency by building the appropriate furniture.
