I live near Jerusalem, so I can tell you that the "Asker" is correct, this did happen, but you don't know the whole story.
There are certain bus lines (called "Mehadrin") that specifically have separate seating for men and women. Many of them are private bus lines that run from one heavily religious town to another. There are a few public bus lines that have "Mehadrin" bus lines, but not too many.
Anyway, there is a sign on the bus that identifies it as being a separate men/women seating bus, but sometimes a woman mistakenly gets on that bus. If she had been paying attention, then she could have waited for the next bus behind it that had mixed men/women seating.
Unfortunately, when she boarded the wrong bus, she was informed by some of the men that she could either move to the rear, or get off and wait for a mixed bus.
That's the story, and I guess the real question should be:
Is it OK to have some buses with separate seating and others with mixed seating?
I can tell you that this country is a country of amazing contrasts on many levels. One of those contrasts is the mixture of large numbers of very devout, pious, humble people living shoulder to shoulder with secular people with no self-respect that walk around half-naked.
If you saw the way some women dressed here (after all, it is a warm mediterranean climate), you would understand why some men (and women) want separate seating bus lines.

Well the fact that two orthodox Jewish men intimidated an elderly woman to move to the back seat as a result of their own deep seated misogyny isn’t indicative of a specific policy of women being discriminated against in Israel, either by de facto tradition or formal legislation. All this entire incident demonstrates is the prejudice of two men, not the policies or sentiment of the nation of Israel as a whole. Unless you can cite documentation, showing that it is written into the Israeli constitution or laws that women are to be relegated to secondary status, I will assume that this is an isolated incident that isn’t reflective of the norm in Israel.
It quite simply is out of character for a nation that is quite progressive, despite its religious roots.

This was a single isolated incident. It has been blown up out of all proportion.
It has been condemned across the board in Israel.
It pales in comparison to the attacks on innocent Israelis by the Arab terrorists. And for that matter, their murderous attacks on their fellow Arabs.
Jihadists today invoke the Quran to justify the worst terrorist crimes. Throat slitting of infidels is mentioned in the Quran. Al-Mawardi (d. 1058), the prominent 11th century jurist quoted this verse, specifically, « When you encounter those who deny (the Truth) then strike (their) necks. » (Quran 47 :4), in his learned discussion of jihad. This ritual execution is also mentioned in other Muslim legal texts and in narratives of Christian and prominent Muslim historians. Today it is performed against infidels and recorded on videotape for the edification of Muslim audiences.

As they say in Dixie "If the sheet fits wear it"
They hate Jews. This goes all the way back to when Alabama was a Spanish prison colony. Remember the Inquisition. It wasn't that long ago.

It is just a tradition followed to this day by Israeli's and so what if a woman was beaten on the way to religious ceremonies by the male members of a bus when she failed to take her proper seat in the back .

I didn't know that Jewish women weren't allowed to sit in the front of the bus. Also, I don't know how one would know that a woman was Jewish, unless she were wearing a Star of David, like Jews were required to do in Nazi Germany.
