yesterday! I downloaded a file and scanned it right away. It told me that the file was virus free but when i decompressed it, i end up with two files. One that was ok and the other one was a trojan named Kernels88. How come avg didn't detect it when i scanned it just before? Is there another free antivirus that is more effective than avg? Thank you very much for your help!!

avg is very effective. However, when you scan a compressed file it will only scan the files that are visible. You should have opened the compressed folder and scanned again so that all the files were visable.

norton is now part of the google pack and it is free to keep!
I was stuck with norton '97 as I had bought it but tonight I reinstalled windows and found you can get the 2005 version which is a bit easier to use and it is free, just update the definition files after installing it. Beats all the others by a long shot here's the link http://google-earth-download.net
also get adaware while you are at it and you'll be 100% covered.
It's all part of the pack where you get earth.
hope it helped

CounterSpy v.2 has just been released. This is arguably the most powerful anti-spyware program available. It runs rings around any freeware you care to mention as well as most paid programs. It costs very little ($19.95) but the best thing is that you can try it for free for 15 days. So, if you want or get rid of spyware, adware, malware, trojans and keyloggers, try CounterSpy, you won't be disappointed.

There is nothing better than browsing the Internet with your hard drives in a vault.

Google "Internet Freedom Disk" to see the video

You have to put up with some minor inconvenience, but compare that to losing a hard drive or having your identity stolen and you'll see it is worth it.

Yep FREE!
