In a word, YES.

That is the function of a clutch pedal switch. If the switch isn't working or if it isn't depressed then the car won't start. It's function is a safety mechinism to keep the vehicle from being started in gear.

It's a snap in and snap out change to replace the switch.

Yes. There is a safety switch which will not allow the vehicle to crank unless the clutch is engaged. Look under the dash, make sure the switch is plugged in as sometimes the wires will unhook. If it is it has probably failed. Not a hard job to change it.

The clutch safety switch is hooked to the silinoid relay.
Check for slippage, broken plastic mounting brackets, loose wireing and pigtails, blown fuses, falty connections inside switch, when in doubt change it out.

of course it would, you can't start a 5 speed, w/o the clutch down.....
