DMV has provisions for a home built bike... I built a trailer out of steel i bought and registered it without problem...they will prob. require inspection..so check on whats needed.

in basic terms dropping a bike from a parked position or perhaps low % drop received't get it categorized as salvage or rebuilt call. The paint chips you spot lacking are likely used body panels the guy who rebuilt the bike used to modify the tousled body plastics. a very destroyed fairing and bent forks may often be sufficient to get a bike offered for scrap because the change value on the body panels (new) will exceed the price of the bike. As some different person reported, communicate inclusive of your coverage agent earlier procuring this gadget, as many coverage organizations received't write guidelines on rebuilt motorcycles. And there'll be added hoops to flow through to be sure that it to bypass your providences inspections. in case you at the instantaneous are not prepared to purchase and then pay to have it protection inspected by technique of your state or provincial police (an same those who pull trucks over for protection inspections alongside the line) and obviously wait patiently for them to get time to surely do the inspection, then bypass in this bike. If the guy promoting it receives quite keen, and tries to cajole you, all the added reason to run and not in any respect walk from this deal

there is also rebuilt or "r" title option I'll assume you either got a bill of sale or can get one from the person you bought it off of

In Pa at least you need to do a few things go to the DMV website and print out the forms for appling for a rebuilt. It will also ask you to attach allthe reciepts for parts you have purchased down to nuts and bolts

it will also ask for Photos from every angle of the machine and various additional questions.. then a form you take to an inspection mechanic to fill out after he throughly checks out your work.

then a couple fees and 4=6 weeks and you get a title

(Pa is a strict state but that should be near a general process)

In California you would fill out a statement of facts, pay the vehicle fees, and wait for a title search. If it comes up lien free, then it is yours. In the mean time you would be operating on a temporary permit. I believe that most states have a similar policy.
