I had two rottweilers (both we're put down recently) and they were both big babies. Well, mostly, they were both very protective if someone came into our house but they didnt go off and attack things! But when it was just us in the house they would cuddle with us and play all the time. They were a joy to watch and to love and they were beautiful animals! Does anyone else have a breed that is looked at as mean and evil and you know there not? And do you have any examples of how they are truly the opposite of mean?

Yes!!! I had to put my baby "Daisy" down three months ago. Rottweilers are misunderstood along with every other "mean looking" breed. The only thing that makes a dog mean is the person who owns it. If you train, treat and encourage a dog to be mean, it will be mean. You give them love and a good sense of family and they can be the best dogs on earth.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is, irresponsible people have used, abused and illegally fought these beautiful animals giving them "a bad rap". Too many A**holes out there get these animals for the sole purpose to have a "bad" dog.

Any dog can be trained to be mean. Just like any dog can be trained as a loving family pet.

My girlfriend has a HUGH rottie who looks fearsome however he is just as loving as can be. I have a pit mix and she is one of the best dogs I have ever owned.

Rottweilers were originally bread to fight along side soldiers in the Roman wars thus a reputation of being vicious preceeded them. Some people think that all rotties are still this way. Some people are just afraid of "Big" dogs. It is a real shame since they are great family dogs.

Pit bulls In 1835 the British Parliament outlawed bull baiting, a sadistic gambling game in which bulldogs were used to attack and harass bulls brought to market with the dubious intention of tenderizing the meat. The dog would assault the bull, avoid the stomping hooves and slashing horns, grab a tender nose or ear, and hang on until the bull collapsed. Commoners and royalty alike sought diversion from the violence and diseases of their day by attending these bloody spectacles. Because of this history Americians used the dogs (mostly during the depression for gambling and cheap entertainment) as fighting dogs.

Once the Public can get over these sterio types in dogs, and the irresponsible can be held accountable, I think these dogs will be looked at in a diffrent light.

In our family we have raised Rotts for 25 years. All of our dogs where show dogs and several where grand champions. They are the sweetest dogs if rasied right and gotten from a good breeder. Some thing with pit bulls and other large working breeds. What people have to understand is that is is not the breeds fault that the human race has giving the breed a bad name!! Back Yard Breeds are the worst!!! They breed dogs that should never have been bred because they did not have the right temperment!! They just wanted to have puppies and try and make money!!!

The human race is to blame for the bad dogs that have given the whole breed a bad name!! Good breeding and good families are what make the dogs!!!

Well I think people that think that rottweilers are evil don't really know much about dogs to start with. I personally had a bad experience with two of them . My neighbor had two of them and I had a Pekingese, I let him out to the yard and they (the rottweilers) dug a hole, pulled him under the fence and attacked him, my dog had to be in the animal hospital for about a week. But I still think that rottweilers are adorable they like any other animal are just dogs and so they act like that. But If you don't mistreat or abuse the animal or train them for dogfights they just grow to be Big, cute adorable dogs :)

I had a Rott one time and it was a very nice dog. I think the problem is that all dogs have potential of hurting kids. In the city I am in we have had a rash of kids hurt and killed by dogs mostly pitbulls. The big problem is the size and power of certain dogs. When I was kid I was bit on the neck by a poodle of all animals. Now as minor as that was, if the attack had been a pitbull I might have not been here now. Dogs just have a nature to react in attack mode and that is hard to get pass for them.

I use to work at a vet clinic and we had plenty of Rotts, Dobermans, and Pitbulls to come in. They were usually big puppies who loved to be loved on and would let us do anything to them. The only time we had a problem with any of them was when the owner's uncaringness, abuse, or such towards the dog would make it into an aggressive animal.

The ones we had the most trouble with were the little yippy dogs. Those would try their best to tear you to pieces.

Many people that don't like big dogs or are afraid of them are usually dog haters. They don't understand that no matter how large they are, it doesnt' mean they will all jump on you and attack. With good training and constant affection - these dogs are some of the best breeds out there. We used to have a Great Dane and we used to call her the gentle giant.

Many people that own pitbulls have been complaining about the same exact things. In fact, the pitbull controversy has been in the public eye recently.

No. I have not owned a dog since I was a teen. I don't know if I will ever be able to own a dog again. My father manipulated me into getting rid of my beloved German Shepherd when I was a teen. I have tried to own dogs recently and I push them away. No dog has ever been able to replace my beloved Justina.

A friend of mine has a Rottweiler, he loves that dog. In fact, he keeps the spare key to the house hanging from his dog collar. No bad guys have ever been able to get close to the key yet.

It is sad that people generalize and get prejudice. We use to have one that was nothing BUT a big baby! They are SUPPOSE to be protective and I've NEVER heard of them attacking out of the blue like the ones they're working on banning everywhere now - pit bulls! My sister had TWO pit bulls. Very protective, but NOT vicious like that! I'd go and visit - and they were MUSH in my hands! They KNEW what was a good safe personality and what was not. It was a great detective for my sister being single and checking out her dates!
