NOOOO please get him out, he wont hurt the babies but mom goes back into heat 8 hours after birth. This is very bad for mom and new babies. She will be pregnant while nursing and cause problems with her health and all the health of the next babies. Also dad will breed any baby female that goes into early heat and the baby girls can go into heat as soon as 4 weeks. This is Inbreeding its bad practice. Please stop breeding your guinea pigs. There are too many and I am sure that now you have yet another litter on the way to be born soon. Get that male out now and dont let her breed anymore. Its going to really cause problems. ITs too late for now if you left him in there. She will have a 2nd litter in 60 to 70 days. Be a kind and knowledgeable owner, nueter your male and stop breeding them if you are not showing them.
I have bred show guinea pigs for 17 years, and formed a rescue for unwanted guinea pigs, I have now rescued 258 unwanted pet guinea pigs. I have seen it all so i know what i am talking about.
ADDITIONAL INFO: THE MALE WILL NOT EAT THEM.... they are not like hamsters or mice or rabbits. They are very social animals, The male and the female guinea WILL NOT eat the babies. If they are left together they will raise the babies together, but the problem is the constant re-breeding which is not a good practice amoung guinea pigs breeders.

I have been breeding mine for 3 years now and with 10 litters of babies my male has never eaten a one. Actually, when I remove the dad, the mother gets very very upset and nervous without him so I leave them be and the babies just drive the dad crazy. The dad has never bitten one, chased one...actually he steers clear of them as the mother protects them and snips at the father so he stays hidden. I also read on many sites to leave them be unless you want no more babies, then remove the father after 2 days. They can become pregnant after 72 hours.

You have to separate the male as he can get female pregnant and also eat the babies, You can't touch the babies as if your sent gets on them the mother will eat them herself, the guinne pig will do everything just make sure it has lots of hay , food and water, she will do the rest, If you are keeping all the babies you will need to separte them also when they are on aolids into two cages one for female and other for male. I hope this helps

It is safe to leave the male with the female during pregnancy.
After the female has given birth, it is best to put him in another cage. She will need to give all of her attention to the babies. While he won't hurt them, he will pester her. Also, as she can get pregnant again almost immediately, it is best to keep them apart so she doesn't get ill from over breeding.

NO, NO, NO. I had guinea pigs all my life, and trust me, is not a good idea. Male guinea pigs eat the little ones. And also, be aware that, if one of the babies is a male, there is going to be a fight. Male guinea pigs can not be with other male guinea pigs in the same cage. Is best to leave the mom guinea pigs with the babies, and when they grow older leave one male, and take the other ones out, or all if you don't want anymore.

No the male will eat them. If this is mothers first litter then she could to, but nothing you can do about that. Try to keep hutch quiet and don't go looking all the time as will be interpreted as a threat and that's the natural thing to do eat them unfortunately. What a cracking answer before "IF THE MALE IS NEUTERED", Immaculate birth or what?

yeah if the male guinea is neutered it will be ok as the female can get pregnant a few hours after giving birth. He wont harm the babies,

NO! its's not safe, if the male is in the cage when the female gives birth the male might eat the babies. the female may even eat them. Also females get VERY protective, and territorial, therefore its not safe to keep the male in there, i would get seperate cages.

No - he will eat the babies - gross but true. Seperate them well in advance of the birth - now if possible, then don't let him near the babies until they are a decent size

Sometimes male adults can attack the babies so might be best to be careful.
