Its not ok to mistreat any animal. If the area in which you lived was predominantly Hindu and of that certian kind that didnt allow any mistreatment or killing of animals, you probably wouldnt see that much. Street dogs, unfortunately in India are not well liked by most people, they consider them pests, I know you guys have ALOT ALOT ALOT of street dogs (my daughters father is from India ive been there before). There isnt really any kind of cruely force to help them and shelters are pretty non-exisitant. Do you have a Hindu temple near by? Could they be taken in by some priests or follower? I dont know other than that.
JOEPONY india is not a third world country, far from it, Its fast become a super power and a very important country to watch. Just because they are not culturally like you doesnt me they are a "toliet" country. Believe me if you are American or English... the Indian people have been around alot longer than you, and have a certian way things are delt with, they dont nessacarly have the time, money, or resources Americans and there european brethren have to spend of rescues of street dogs, Most people there believe animals are animals and they are left to themselves but those who do have pets care for them better than there familys sometimes. She is speaking of Feral or Street dogs, dogs with no owners that can cause alot of troubles when they are looking for food.

It depends where you live, remember the U.S. is big. There are leash laws pretty well every where but like most laws some people choose to ignore them. Its more of a problem in poorer areas than say the suburbs. In these areas people cant afford to properly care for (feed and neauter) dogs and the simply let the dogs roam loose. The dogs then reproduce at alarming rates and you end up with feral dogs who belong to no one. In a perfect world people would never own these animals unless they could care for them but unfortunatly crime is also high in these areas and people get dogs as protection. I live out in the country and while my dogs are always watched or leashed when out doors no one else seems to do the same. I think they just assume they are safe out here. That is not the case, as the neighbors aggressive lab recently 'disapeared' (likely shot or ran over) I could call the SPCA and they would talk to them but likely nothing would change. I think the issue is that the punishment is not strong enough.

Put yourself in the dog's perspective. If you see an animal being mistreated, imagine if you were the animal being treated that way. How would you feel? Would you continue to trust people? Would you want the mistreatment to continue?
More often than not, if you put yourself in someone else's shoes you will be better able to relate how they're feeling and how they see the world around them and this should include animals.

To mistreat them, certainly not. But, I think that feral dogs and cats are unfairly ranked above other, native wildlife which belong outside more than they do.
A lot of people here in the states do not want wild dogs and cats rounded up for "animal welfare" reasons, but they are a threat to native wildlife. It is better to end their lives humanely than to let them be a nuisance until human patience gives way, and something bad inevitably happens.

My thoughts on this are that every living creature can feel and has emotions. Although we may not understand those aspects of them or simply choose to ignore it... there is no excuse for treating animals with cruelty. If a person can treat an animal in such dispicable ways, who is to say that they're not capable of doing the same thing to a human? Bottomline is that violence is violence... regardless of where something is on the food chain and it's especially disturbing when people will do these things simply for entertainment.

No, that's not ok!! Dogs are domesticated animals. That means that people are responsible for taking care of them. You have to do something.
You can catch the stray dos, get them medical care, get them spayed or neutered, and release them. If enough of these dogs are sterilized, there will no longer be dogs on the street.
And anyone who has an unsterilized pet dog should be thrown in jail. Along with anyone who hurts a dog.

It's wrong to mistreat any animal. It's sad that there are so many mistreated dogs there, but unfortunately, there are mistreated animals all over the world. You don't have the responsibility to help every dog you see, but you do have the responsibility to care for your own dog if you have one.

Its amazing that cows (an extremely stupid, if well
meaning animal) are treated better than dogs which
have a brain far closer in function to humans that
cows do.
That being said, they eat dogs (ok, and cows too) in
Korea.
No, cruelty to animals is bad, no matter what religion
or region you are in.
I would not blame a lion for eating me, and I do not
blame me for eating a cow (or dog), but I don't have
to be cruel about it.

I hate it when any animal is mistreated. How would people like to be treated as if they were nothing? I am a animal lover
