Justin B got it pretty much correct. Ferrari have standard doors that are hinged at the A pillar and swing out like doors of a 'regular' car. Lambos have 'scissor doors', which you can get kits for, if you really want one. 'Butterfly doors' open up (like scissor doors) and then out - see the Renault Sport Spider. 'Gullwing' doors (like the Delorean) are hinged above your head and when the car is looked at straight on, it looks like a bird in flight. [Those who said 'gullwing' in answer to the question, go out and shoot yourselves] Incidentally, gullwing doors open UP not OUT and therefore need only 14" of clearance - so they are not such a dumb idea in a tight car park. 'Suicide doors' are like those on the new Mazda Rx8 - no central pillar between them. Therefore you need FOUR doors to have suicide doors and there are no four-door cars with a Ferrari badge. The BMW Z1 has doors which drop vertically down into the floor - and they're plastic. And the General Lee on the Dukes of Hazzard has no doors at all (well, welded shut doors - but it's the same thing)! Yee-ha!

Gull wing doors opens up like the car form the Back to the Future movies. Scissors doors are the doors that open on the Lamborghinis now.

There's scissor doors like on Lamborghini's or the only Ferrari I can think of is the Enzo which has these.
Some old Mercs had gull wing doors which open straight up rather than up and forwards.

They're called, among other things, "Impractical." They're also unsafe. Ever think about how you'd get out if the car turned turtle in an accident? Those doors are styling gimicks. They look racy, but when installed (as I've seen them many times) on small, Japanese and European cars, although sexy looking, they are much heavier (because of the complicated hinge mechanisms) than standard doors. Then again, if you want to add weight, lessen safety, go slower and look sexier, than gull wing doors on your Honda Civic are the way to go.

ferrari has never made a gull wing, scissor, or clamshelled door car.
gullwing hinges from the roof (opens up), scissor is like lamborghini and hinges in the normal spot, but in the vertical direction, and clamshell opens like the SLR or mclaren F1, and is hinged on the A pillar.
youre most likely thinking scissor doors, which are a trademark from lamborghini.

to the person that said lambo or scissor, thank you, it shows that there is intelligence in these answers... gullwing, as stated, are such as on the DeLorean on "Back to the Future". one other name, that you can find on andy's auto sport (www.andysautosport.com) is vertical doors. i just hope that anyone who answer gullwing will drop their heads in shame for thinking that lambos or ferraris would have a retarded design as the gull wing door. as to the person that said suicide doors, you are WAY out of line. suicide doors are such as on newer trucks, or my personal favorite, the old lincoln continentals. where the hinges are not located the same way, but opposite. kinda like a swing door at a resurant. and do not brag about who you live next to because obviously, you don't, or you would not have put in such an asinine answer. but i hope my answer is helpful to the person who asked and the people who answered.

Most kits to put the on your car are called "Lambo doors". For Lamborgini , of course. They pivot up on one point. The Gull wing doors typical open straight up on a hinge oriented in the direction of the car.

The term gull-wing door is an automotive industry term describing automobile doors which are hinged at the roof. They are so named because, when opened, the doors evoke the image of a seagulls wings.
