Sounds like it's a DVD Rom (which does all that you've mentioned above except burn) and not a DVD-RW (Burner). And if it is a burner you probably do not have burning software like Nero, Sonic, etc. Windows Media Player and Real Player should have burning capabilities as well

Make sure you are trying to burn to compatible discs. For instance, if your burner will only burn to -R, or -RW discs and you are using +R, or +RW discs, this could be the problem. Pre-recorded discs that have been finalized can be read by any DVD drive regardless of compatibility due to the fact they have been finalized. Also, if you are getting the error after you have gone through the entire write process, this error may be erroneous in itself. I have experienced this error after burning discs, but found out that the disc was readable. If you can insert the disc in another CD or DVD drive and it can be read, the error may be false.

If the problem was because your DVD drive is not a DVD Burner, when you insert a blank disc and try to open it, you should get a message telling you to insert a disc in the drive. It would do this because the blank disc isn't formatted and a DVD ROM wouldn't recognize a disc being there because it doesn't know what to do with an unformatted disc. Since you are getting a disc error massage, you probably do have a burner, so that shouldn't be your problem.

Your DVD drive may not be a burner. While any DVD drive can play all the disk you listed, not all of them can burn DVDs. If your DVD drive is able to burn DVD's, it will have a small emblem on it that says "DVD+R", "DVD-R" or "DVD+-R". If it only says "DVD" or has "DVD" with the word "ROM" in small leters under it, then id is not a burner.

You probably need to install a burning software. Try nero from nero.com it is pretty good.

are you sure its a DVD ROM or DVD Writer??
Bcoz if its DVD Rom..then it can only read DVD/CD.
If its DVD Writer and its giving msg "Prblm on disk" try to put other new disk......and if its still giving same error...then its prblm with ur DVD Writer.
