I cannot find any mention of this file on the internet. I have no idea what application needs it. Is it safe?

That's odd because whenever an application (executable) starts McAfee Anti-Virus examines it for contamination.

Right click on the file-name, click properties to find the company that produced the file. You could deny access until you're comfortable about letting it run.

Since there seems to be no info on the internet about this file then I would think it could be a virus or spyware of some sort.
Don't allow it to access the internet, you can also rename or move it and see what happens. IF you don't have any problems in a few days then delete the file. If it won't let you do anything to it that means it is running so you will need to boot into safe mode by pressing F8 when booting up and do it then.

You are right the exact file cannot be located on the net. Some viruses generate random file.
(1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans
(2) Do an online virus scan to check if you still have any other viruses in your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .
