Just wondering if anyone can help. Say I wanted to produce an evening of "songs from the shows" at my local theatre. Would I need permission from Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber to sing songs from the Phantom of the Opera, Cameron Mackintosh for Les Mis etc for copyright law or something like that? Because I'm sure that at school we sang lots of these songs for performances and I very much doubt that the school requested the permission of these people. Basically I just want to know the do's and don'ts of setting this type of production up, and any legalities concerned.

Thank you

I'm pretty sure schools have to pay a fee, don't need permission but need to pay when they want to put on musicals
