My insurance would not cover my 3rd c-section, so we paid the whole thing out of pocket. Well, I immediately told my OB/GYN and I was able to pay for all my prenatal visits, ultrasounds, in 4 separate payments, by the 20th week. Then, as far as the hospital went, they told me that if I paid $4000 before my 9th month, then that was it, and I would just have to pay for the anesthesiologist (another $1500). If I didn't pay by the 9th month, then they would charge me the full fee- $21,000!!!! So, as you can see, it is pretty much a huge, giant scam. I would discuss is ASAP with the hospital. They CAN give you a break. Also, I contacted the anesthesiology billing dept. and explained how my insurance won't pay because I was considered high risk after having 2 previous c-sections, and they dropped my bill down to $700!!! So, it does pay to be really nice to them and try to explain your problem. Good luck!

It all depends on that baby's needs. Some may have to stay in the hospital until they reach their due date, while some just a week or two. In part it depends on lung development, how they are feeding, if they have apnea, if they were born early due to an issue, how they are growing. Some doctors like to see a baby go home when they reach 5 lbs, but some go home smaller than that. Sometimes if the baby will have a home nurse visiting a couple of times a week, that baby will go home before one who won't have an at home nurse. The doctors may also like the parents to know CPR.

I heard it was around $10,000 for the birth, postnatal care for mom and baby.
Look into Medicaid... that's what I'm on and it covers everything prenatal and postnatal. Or consider a birthing center or home birth (with a midwife and doula) rather than at a hospital.
Good Luck.

Several thousand dollars (probably 4-5k) since they charge every time they touch you or the baby. You can call and ask if the hospital will work out a payment plan with you or look into birthing centers or home birth.

$5,947; that included two nights, and the baby was on oxygen the first night
You need a new health insurance plan
Or look into using a midwife either at home or a birthing center. The cost is usually MUCH less, and they'll work with you better to pay it out (incidentally, my mother-in-law had five kids... her midwife had a "buy four get the fifth free" deal for her).

That depends on a lot of things: vaginal/c-section, drugs/no drugs, mother's health, baby's health, time spent in hospital, medications, etc.
You should contact the hospital and they may be able to give you a rough figure. You might want to contact ASAP anyway to maybe start setting up a payment plan.

I think mine cost about 15k (just insane)
When I was admitted, within about 24 hours of being there they wanted my insurance info, and had me sign some papers about commitments to unpaid balances after insurance. They do set up payment plans for these things. I've had some girlfriends pay for their babies as long as 2yrs later.

yes! look into medicaid! even if you already have insurance... if your income meets their guidelines, they will cover whatever your current insurance doesn't pay for. even a 2 night stay in the hospital can be outrageous! your local health department or social services should be able to give you an application.

i don't have any insurance but someone told me to call the nearby hospitals and ask if they offer maternity contracts. all of the ones around me do. some called it the stork saver plan. so instead of paying $6-7000.00 i'll end up paying less than $3000.00. call around and see if any hospitals near you offer the same thing. good luck!

Talk to the hospital, they can work with you, but it is better to do it now before you have the baby then to wait cause if you wait they usually charge you huge amounts.
