What sort of impact do you mean? Sales impact? Marketing impact? or Security impact?
It's a huge impact overall really. Databases can drive anything from search engines, product info, and user data. Most web based content is contained in a database of some sort with dynamic pages formating the output.

Internet based business applications afford the business a lower cost of total ownership. Allows for smaller businesses to use sofware that they could typically not afford and ensures a safe offsite storage and backup of compamy information. A real plus for business who cannot afford an IT department.
