up keep, things getting ruined or stolen, the price being too high and rooms not getting filled...often times hotels think that making it so over the top will bring in a better client. Unfor. that isn't always the case, $ is often in the "wrong persons" hand, drug dealers etc...u get my drift. I think there already are so many fancy places that adding another with out a real "niche" or something special that they offer is a waste. I mean really is one gonna build Casears Palace in the middle of North Dakota...nope! There's a place for all types if hotels, but I think there biggest disadvantage would be the cost of keeping it up and filled. The damages from one room that one customer could make could effect the whole place...who's to say that person who was staying the room even has a pot to piss in...they may just have gotten lucky at the craps table ya know....I know ur not talking about Las Vegas, just using it as a frame of reference. Also the word LUXURY has a different def. for each person. Some people would agree that luxury to them is a whirlpool tub and cable others want the all out all inclusive type treatment to be concered luxury. Ok I'm way off track now...I could go into the socioeconomic classes and how each determines or how media portrays the top and people reactions but I doubt ur writing an essay on it! :) Good luck hope this help!

I'll tell you the advantages first even though you didn't ask. We stayed in the Bellagio last August. The advantages of a luxury hotel are that you can join their "Players club" and earn points. Bellagio's players club card worked at a few places, including MGM, etc. With the points we earned, they ended up "Comping" ALL the extras, for the whole week.(Dining, Drinks, etc.) and we even got cash back.

The disadvantages include:
1. longer lines and longer walking distances to you room and everything else inside.

2. The stores and restaurants are more expensive. (but, like I said, they took it off our bill)

3. more crowds.

That's pretty much it.

The price.

Stay in a cheap hotel like Circus Circus. You are still on the strip and can easily get to any of the luxury hotels to gamble, sightsee, and eat at their buffets.

I did this and had extra money left over, since I didn't have to spend so much on the room, so I rented a car with it.

It's an elastic good. If something better comes along with the same quality for less, they are replaced. Or if cash flow is tight, a luxury hotel isn't such a priority.

The price is the main disadvantage. If someone is on a trip then they can spent the money on different things like visiting more places, shopping, or on food etc. instead of spending on rooms.
