We are looking to rent a home in the Boston area. We are looking for a great family environment, excellent schools and something close to public transportation for a quick commute to downtown. We know virtually nothing about the area. HELP!!

Wellesley is v. nice, v. expensive. Really good school system. my mom is a teacher there. check the commuter rail maps to see what is close to Wellesley. It's not on the subway system, but the Commuter rail runs out there. It's not too far.

if you are looking for a closer spot - Cambridge and Brookline are both nice areas that prob. have good schools. they're on the mid-outer edges of the subway system - 15 minutes away from downtown.

Newton, Wellsley, Lexington, and Andover are the main suitable suburbs - 10/20 min into the city - yet they are particularly costly. in case you elect fairly extra city, Brookine is extremely good too - additionally costly. Arlington, analyzing, Wakefield, are good and somewhat extra authentic looking. Newburyport/Amesbury are extraordinary, yet at that element kinda small city and pushing your hour shrink. stay the hell removed from Malden/Lynn/Revere, Lowell, Lawrence, and something immediatley south of Downtown. i don't be attentive to the southern suburbs somewhat properly. I hear Norwood/Foxborough/Sharon/Brockton are extraordinary adequate. i do no longer think of particularly noticeably of recent Hampshire's college device (or their politics for that rely), however the fee of residing is in many circumstances decrease. They do have surprisingly intense sources taxes nonetheless.
