'Ideal' here is:

-- all cotton
-- long enough to cover the hideous tops of maternity trousers. For heavens' sakes, manufacturers...
-- available in a variety of tasteful colours
-- available in a variety of sleeve lengths; I don't like ultra-short, too
-- not low-necked

In a perfect world, this item is available in, or shipped to, Canada, but -- if it's worth it, I can have a friend or relative in the US, possibly UK, forward a parcel on to me.

Ones I've found at Motherhood are annoyingly spandexed & v-necked; ones I've found at Thyme, not bad, but too short; they're going to be pretty unattractive when I'm larger. One from the Gap is too styled, so to speak; I want plain...

Had the irritation of being in a Wal-Mart last night; saw an extremely pregnant woman there in a too-short, too-tight maternity t-shirt, and thought "Yikes. Yuk. I don't want that to be me," so I'd like to get on this. Help! If you have a decent t-shirt, give me a description and store name!

I always bought regular Hanes men's T-shirts from Wal-mart. They're perfect. Long enough, regular short sleeves, long sleeves, many colors, all cotton, regular neckline, usually plain solid-colored, no weird designs, sizes up to 3X.

Well, the most comfortable ones I got were from Target. That was a few years ago, so I don't know what's available now. It was spring/summertime, and I got these two shirts (same shirt, one plain, one striped, different colors) that I just happened to see. I don't normally shop at Target, just happened to be at one. I too am very picky about my shirts, and I know just how uncomfortable the wrong shirt can be while pregnant. I think the ones I got were "in due time" brand. They were extremely comfy, soft, may have had a little stretch but nothing annoying (trust me, I hate stretchy shirts), a plain neckline, nothing v-shaped or too wide, and they fit perfectly. They were a tad longer, just enough to cover what you want to, but they were stylish enough for a maternity tee. They also were a bit thicker than most shirts you see nowadays, I hate ones that feel like there's nothing to them! They were the MOST comfy shirts I wore for my pregnancy. I had one in plain classic black, and another white one in some brighter spring green and turquiose stripes. (It probably sounds horrid, but it was wasn't. I'm just not good at describing. If I had a pic, I'd show you, but I don't.)

Try Old Navy, they have a good selection of maternity clothes there. I have some of the tank tops and they seem to match the basic description you give. They have a variety of sleeve lengths and necklines i their T's. The tanks I have are super-stretchy to go over even my 38 week belly, and no spandex there, all cotton.

Also, the first girl has a great idea, too. I find myself wearing my husband's t-shirts, or some of my older t-shirts from the baggy days when I just want something loose.

I agree with you about staying away from Motherhood items. They always seem to shrink ~ at a time when your body is growing.
Have yoiu tried Target? They have a pretty good Maternity section. I also hit alot of second hand stores for my stuff because # 1 it's been washed before (so you don't have to worry about shinking) # 2 It's cheep and # 3 you won't be wearing them very long anyhow.
Good luck!!!

i have always had pretty good luck at target. BUT one of my FAVORITE t-shirts that i have i got from Kmart! i LOVE it. it's so soft and quite long (it covers a majority of my butt too) amd the sleeve go down about halfway to my elbow...not too short. and it says "my lovely baby bump" hahahaha! that was the selling point for me but everything else i stated were totally BONUS since i didn't even try it on before i bought it....so try kmart too...i was surprised!
