Usually you have to get 120 credit hours and fulfill the required classes for your major. Some majors allow you to take alot of electives and just fill the 120 credit our minimum, others require extra work. Most classes are made up of 3 or 4 credit hours. So if you were to do a bachelors degree with 3 mainly credit hour classes you would have to take 40 classes.

I had to take 156 credits to get my degree. Don't know how many classes that was because the classes had different amounts of credits associated with them.
I took 21 credits a sememster. Most classes were 3 credits a few were 4 and the phy ed classes were sometimes 2 or 3 credits.

This often depends on your major, and on the college. An average load is three courses a term, though many students do four. If you are researching colleges, the interesting statistic to look at is "average time to degree". Many majors or colleges are so hard, a lot of students need 5, not 4 years, to complete all their coursework.
Good luck!

Twelve per semester, or more if you can handle it and they let you take them.
