Of course not! Use your brain, not your heart on this one. Read the headlines, smell the coffee. You are not a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week residential treatment facility, and the latter has 8 hr shift employees, cooks, housekeeping, educated medical and psychological staff. You would not be doing a favor for the person considering the bleak prospects of your heart's endeavor. And when the rescuer becomes the suffering victim? What then?
The answers are unanimous. Trust them, they are not lacking in compassion, evidence of that is that they reached out to you to answer.

NO. You can help homeless people by giving them food, clothing, blankets, jackets, etc., but don't let them into your home.

One reason you shouldn't invite them to your house is that many homeless people have lice and/or sand fleas. You don't want your house infested with these.

Another reason is that some homeless people are mentally ill--you may not be able to control them, or call an ambulance soon enough, to protect yourself.

Still another reason is that some homeless people are alcoholics and/or drug abusers. You do not want that going on in your house.

Additionally, I doubt that you would be able to be home 24/7 with this person--who knows who she or he might invite in while you are gone.

You sound like a person with a good heart - a person who is willing to get involved and help the less fortunate. You can do so by volunteering at a homeless shelther, donating money or food to the homeless shelter, donating clothing or blankets to the homeless shelter, etc.

You could even take a homeless person out to eat (breakfast, lunch or dinner) once a day, every day. Just don't bring them to your home.

Absolutely not! You are taking too big a chance with your own life if you do. If you want to help this person, then hook them up with the proper assistance for homeless from the city where you live. You can give money and clothes to them and a ride to the mission. Surely you aren't seriously considering taking in a person from the streets!

believe it or not, i have done this. I offered this guy (i knew him a little, he wasnt a random person) to stay with me for a couple months (like 2 max) and he would be looking for a job and get him self in order. he was mentally ill, and didnt take his meds so he didn't get any better. he did nothing for the entire time but eat my food and take MY meds. I ended up supporting him, which wasn't exactly what i had bargained for. he was a decent person that made bad choices and ended up homeless. as much as i wanted to help him, i couldnt change him. finally i had to kick him out after he took all my meds. his family wouldnt help him, so i dont know what happened to him. you obviously have a good heart and want to help. but there are much safer and realistic ways to help. shelters, dontations, food.....

Interesting idea, inviting them in your house is over the top and risky.
If you believe you can help a non addicted homeless person through some mentoring and small cash loans, try it.Keep your living location
secret though.

No. If you really want to help out the homeless, donate money to a homeless shelter (not individual homeless people).

I would be careful on that one, often homeless people have had a hard life and some have a criminal background, how do you know the difference? why don't you go to social services and offer your home to someone through them. they actually screen people.

No, deffinitly not. You could put yourself in serious danger. You should find another way to help if your that concerned and wanting to help, but never open your home to people you don't know.
