I think it is, so why do white people not have their own month?

Yes i believe it is. This may offend a lot of people but I don't agree with having all of these "black" specified things. Did you know that Starz has a "Black" channel? Have you also realized that if a white person says something mean to a black person, the white gets in trouble. but if a black offends a white person than it's not that big of a deal. its an insult but not a racist comment. Its really frustrating.

If white people are so upset about Black History Month, then how about teaching black history along with white history in the school curriculum through out the year. If it is truly "equal", then teach our history right beside that of white people and there will be no need for black history month because our history will be taught 12 months out of the year instead of 1. All races have made great contributions to our society. However we live in a society where we as blacks are a minority so we have the odds stacked against us in a sense so when we do accomplish a great feat, it is focused on more because there are many more whites in America than blacks especially with higher positions. As for Vonhugens, you sound really racist with your comments. And please do not think that there are not many whites out robbing, killing, and maybe even worst. However the media will constantly show the black acts of violence and down play the ones committed by whites. Who runs the media. White people. So we will see what they want us to see. But lets not forget about the crimes that whites commit., Every race has good and bad people.

No black history month is not racist against white people. But after reading some of the responses to this stupid question I've once again realized the ignorance that still surrounds us. Before people open their mouths to answer a stupid question they should at least know what the hel l they are talking about. Black History is just that Black History. Black history was not taught in the schools. Black people did not learn about all of their ancestors and ancestor's ancestors who have made great accomplishments, and there are many many black people who have made great accomplishments. Inventors, scientists, doctors, and I can go on and on. So black people chose one month out of twelve make dedication to their heritage and racist white people seem to have a problem with that. You never need to ask why is there still racism in this country. Questions like this one make it obvious.

I do not believe that 11 months out of the year are white history. There are no white history posters up at the library saying remember Einstein for white history month. There are no commercials on TV saying remember the white athletes who succeeded at the Olympics. There are no big speeches recognizing the advances that whites have given the world.

Guess what. I don't think there should be either. These ethnic history months are divisive. Lets just be one people. Remember your roots, but do not force the history on everyone else around you.

Some people in this world are ignorant. (Examples being some of the people that have answered on your board) Black history month is not racist against white people. Nowhere in Black history month to African Americans SPECIFICALLY lash out at Caucasians. Black History Month is a time for African Americans to celebrate their accomplishments because they have been denied success for so long in our country's history. Caucasians do not have their own month because they haven't had to overcome unbeatable odds to succeed. However, if you do want a month or holiday that can reference a majority of Caucasians then you can look at the Fourth of July, celebrating when America was free from England. Most of that fight was Caucasian-based, so you can use that one. However, Black History Month is not racist against Caucasians and you would do well to understand that it's about uplifting and accomplishment, not racism and bashing of another race.

Black history is new. White history has been known for centuries and centuries it is only recent that blacks have had a history. Are you out of your mind? Are you educated? I know it's Black History Month.

It doesn't bother me at all because even though my kids are ALSO white, they need to know this stuff, too.

The way minorities, particularly black people, have been treated in this country is a part of all our history. I want my kids to know what obstacles people have overcome and are still overcoming in this country.

It's inspiring and good for all of us to take notice of and learn from regardless of what color we are.

I don't understand the strong feelings against it.

I've heard countless notary blacks in the US that are against Black History Month as well as Black Miss America, ectt....
I'm going to agree with them on this one, why not just have American history month, after all isn't the history of blacks in the US simply American History.
