In psychology there are a few basic emotions that are universal and thusly instinctive for survival, and all other emotions seem to be a subset of these:

happiness, anxiety, sadness, anger, disgust

Most people's "worst" emotions seem to fall under anger - fear, regret, hopelessness.

regret

EDIT: contrary to what someone wrote below, i think most of the negative emotions listed on this page come down to 1 root emotion: fear.

basically, our past (regret), present (jealousy), and future (fear, anxiety, jealousy, the whole enchilada...) relationship to fear in our lives.

even anger is usually under the umbrella category of fear. also, fear is the opposite of love, and most would define love as the "best" emotion...

"Apple" made an excellent point about hopelessness though. hopelessness is probably even worse than fear, because with all the other emotions, you're sort of "fighting" for your final triumph, and worrying/despairing/even getting angry about the prospect of not winning in the end. in hopelessness, you have resigned yourself to the conclusion that you will inevitably lose. and i don't know if it can get any worse than that.

hopelessness is like... rotten fear. i think suicide is what happens when hopelessness takes over.

Although I always hear about how no emotion is bad or good. The answer I would give to this would be: uncontrollable anger.

I don't think any of them are bad if we channel them in the right direction. Anger, sadness, depression, envy, hatred...they can all cause us to take a look at ourselves in a different light and possibly make a decision to make a change.

I think the most potentially dangerous one is hopelessness.

Emotions are not bad. It's human nature.Emotions help us cope with life. How we react to the emotions is what can be bad.

Personally...i think numbness. when you get to the point where you can't feel anything, there's a very 'detached from the world' sense, where you honestly don't care any more. that's scary.

either that or guilt.
