my eheim filter was runnning quietly, then I turned off the power and back on, and it was louder....any reason whY? thanks

Depends on what the sound is like. Sometimes they draw in a bit of air around the impeller and that can make a loud slurping sound for a while but it will eventually quieten down as the filter removes the air. That's most likely if you didn't open the filter. It's also possible that something misaligned when you restarted. A clattering sound would be the test there. If that's the case restarting it may fix the problem or you might have to open up the filter and check everything for proper alignment to get rid of the noise.

Check the impeller for debris. Also little air bubbles caught in the filter can make it run load. It will probably stop on its own. I have noticed this too. As long as the water is moving through it, it is still working ok.

call the company who made it or the shop where you bought it. You migt need a new one.
