It seems to me that the show focuses on the humiliation of the worst contestants along with the smartmouth antics of Judge Simon. Does this focus promote the purposes of the competition or just provide sleazy entertainment to those who like to see people made fools of? Most of what Simon says is uncalled for and ill befitting a person in his position. I'd much rather see mostly the good performers so that I have a better idea of the level of competition for the finals, wouldn't you?

I think American Idol is a great show, and first of alll American Idol does not make fools of people, people make fools of themselves. If you don't want 50million people to laugh at you, then don't audition! It's like, these people complain about Simon being rude, but they've SEEN THE SHOW! They know that he has a perpencity for being rude, so by auditioning, they're taking the chance, that Simon will insult them. Also, the auditioins focus on bad singers, but that's only like four weeks. The show lasts until May, so there's way more good singing than bad

The difference between the Jerry Springer show and American Idol is that Jerry Springer hires actors to act weird. The people on American Idol ARE weird. Those contestants know exactly what they are getting into. They have to sign a release form to show themselves on tv.

The better questions is, what wouldnt people do to be on tv?

Once the initial tryouts are over, the competition does become a bit more about talent, and less about humiliating the contestants.

That being said, people who have no singing talent and try out for a singing competition deserve what they get. Do not tell me some of those folks weren't there just to get on national TV, even if it was to be embarrassed by Simon.

Well, they have to go through that humiliating first part, to single out the good from the bad...I do think they could condense it and have a bad night version, like they did last night, night after night of watching them humiliate people is not necessary, but that is what makes the beginning of Idol...can't change that

They actually need to stop the shows. I don't think that there will be a lot more because Simon keeps saying what has this show come to. he also says I don't know what this show is anymore

Until I see Paula tearing off her bra and panties, and Simon and Randy fist fighting over one of the contestants, I don't think they are the same.

You gotta give it to a show that has the highest ratings consistently...all based on buffoonery.
