Kind of been thinking of either a Honda Nighthawk 250 or maybe Ninja 250. No idea which would be better or if I should look at something else.

a nighthawk at 250cc's wouldnt have near as much power as a ninja 250. 1 bike is air cooled, the other water cooled...and out of the 2, the ninja would run rings around the hawk.
if u are set on a sport bike, i'd suggest the ninja. that would be alot more forgiving than any other sport bike, and would be the cheapest sb u could get.
if u'd rather be on a cruiser, u really cant go wrong getting a sportster. i own 1 and i can tell u first hand that despite its size, it's a well balanced and forgiving bike. enough power that u wont outgrow it in a season. there's a very good write up on the bike i have: XL1200R roadster sportster. and btw, it isnt all that expensive, and right out of the box, it has respectable power. look at this month's "rider" magazine for the review.

The Honda is a good choice.
But most of all, please enroll in a motorcycle safety driving course. It's worth the money and will educate you about riding.
They usually cost about 200 - 300 dollars.
They also will normally use the nighthawk or a rebel 250. That will give you a good idea on your purchase.

I would go with the Ninja 250. It is very easy to learn on and if you like the sport bike look it is the only 250cc available. My mom bought one a month ago and she loves it. The Ninja is so fun that my dad and I are always ditching our bikes to ride the Ninja.

P.S. You should definately take the MSF Course.

My sister-in-law started out on a 250 Ninja three yrs. ago and has now moved up to I believe an 850 Kawasaki. You're on the right track with either of your choices. Get the one that you can " seat " better and be able to support without using " tippytoes ".

I'd go with the Honda 250. It's small, lightweight, and easily maneuverable. Not a highway machine, but should be peppy enough for use in town. I think you'd be satisfied.

suzuki's lightest bike S40 is good also
if u r tall ck out suzuki drz400sm
it's a dirt bike with street tires, 300 lbs, no need to bend over, real nice :-)

First bike, your thinking is on the right track. Stay away from Harleys, they aren't worth the money you pay for them, good bikes, just not a good first bike.

Just remember, any bike can kill you, respect it and have a good time,,, after you take the MSF course.

I think you are on the right track.
If it were me, looking, I would choose by which bike felt more comfortable while sitting on it.
leg position, body position, height. overall general feel of it.
oh and i agree with the MSF course too.
