If you can, take a week off and cool down, Call your close friends and tell them to keep the look out for a new job for you. Some of the best jobs Ive ever seen people get are from others doing favors, but continue to look on the Internet and news paper. Interview with more people than you need, Treat yourself like a valuable commodity so you can make the choice where you work.
Good luck!

First negotiate the best severance package you can. Be sure you get any vacation pay which you might have earned but not yet used.
Second, get the best letter of recommedation you can get from your present employer - especially have it say that they would rehire you if they had more work and that they were very satisfied with your performance.
Third, see if the present employer might recommend others in the industry or perhaps customers or suppliers who might offer you a job.
Fourth, apply for and get unemployment insurance.
Fifth, be sure that you get COBRA continuation of your health insurance.
Never burn bridges. You never know when you might need a friend from your former employer.

File for unemployment, and start looking for another job. Start to take a look at your finances and see where you can revise your budget down. And most importantly, don't stress out. You will find another job, it just takes a little while. Look at it as a time to enjoy yourself. Take a walk in the park, visit friends and family, and try to keep a positive attitude.
If you are really strapped for cash, last case scenario is to go to a temp agency, and hope that they set you up with something that can turn into a full time position.

File for unemployment and start looking for another job. I would recommend contacting a staffing agency. They might be able to find you a temporary position while you're exploring your options. However, since you were terminated, it's going to make it difficult. Employers are wary of hiring candidates with a history of poor work performance. And they will find out about it during the reference checks. Make sure you address this during the interview. Be truthful as to why you were terminated, but don't speak badly about your former employer.

Contact your union rep. Check what your employment contract says about the period of notice that they must give you, and about any severance pay. This is not a nice thing they are doi ng to you, and there is no need for you to be nice about it either.
