Ok, so this is the situation

Yesterday my antivirus found a few infected files, and deleted them,

Today when i try to log on to my user account on windows XP it just reboots my pc

However: I can access my account, if i log onto a guest account then use the switch user thing and then log into my account!

My account is an administrator account, and is the only one affected.

I tried creating another user account and transferring all my files over, so after i did that, i deleted my original account, however this one still has the same issue, so... it must be a problem with ADMINISTRATOR accounts, as the limited accounts are unaffected.

I do not really want to re-install windows, because i dont have any blank cd's to copy my work onto before i format !

HELP

If you have your Windows XP installation CD, you can perform a Repair Installation. What this does is reinstall Windows system files, overwriting the old corrupted ones, while leaving all your data intact. One problem is that you'll need to reinstall all of your other programs as well.

Use the windows installation Disk

Select restore installation (press R at the install menu)

log in to XP on the next command prompt screen

log in with admin password

Once logged in type fixmbr at the command prompt

Press enter (type yes or y at any questions)

Then type fixboot

Press enter as before

Next type exit

The machine should reboot normally

Another thing to try is boot in safe mode with command prompt and run scanreg.exe to check and repair the registry.
