Probably because in my day we all walk to and from school including some of the teachers. These days everyone drives everywhere so the worry is the roads will be too bad to drive on. Britain comes to a grinding halt whether it's a bit of snow, heat, or leaves. We are just hopeless at planning for these things.
Even the news people tell us to stay at home and not to go out WHY? If we are careful, don't drive too fast and leave enough space there shouldn't be any problem.
Sorry nearly fell of my soap box there lol

a million. i'm genuinely tense the sinner searching grace by potential of God. some human beings do huge topics - yet that would not reason them to a monster. God justice is sweet and is His mercy. The courts are surely not interior the forgiving company and their justice is way from suitable. How does a touch one molester get 125 years although the guy that murders a three three hundred and sixty 5 days previous get a 7 a million/2 three hundred and sixty 5 days sentence and out in a lot less that 3?? the position is the justice in those 2 situations? God does not ignore about nor will he be mocked. I, for one do imagine of we've too many police- they are everywhere now- the first signal that a socialistic authorities is on the horizon- the manpower is already there to implement a police state in which no one has any rights and everyone is suspect of each element. and that i kn ow of a minimum of 15 infant abuse situations the position the newborn died (alongside with the single said) had the police performed their pastime proper those babies may nonetheless be alive. the position is God in all this- God will use evil to charm to pastime to evil - study the OT and also you'll see it time and time decrease back- the position God punished Israel for her sins by technique of utilizing allowing evil international places to take her captive. He did not abandon her yet became into disciplining. genuinely he's discipling the U. S. suitable now for our wayward way and turning our backs on Him.

Obviously, there is not one single reason why snow causes such havok in the UK with closures (as compared with Switzerland)
Most obvious reasons are the fact that snow is less frequent (just as floods are more devestating here than when the Nile floods, being used to the event makes it far less destructive.)
Secondly, distance from workplace, we travel far further than most societies, thus, snow's impact on travel infrastructure is far more of an issue.
Thirdly, the compensation culture of the UK means that if school's were kept open and someone injured themselves in the snow the school would be liable to legal action. They are not willing to take this risk.
There are of course many other interlinking reasons

I don't think that many british schools do close when it snows, only if it's really deep or something like that. Apparently, our school will only be closed if more than half the pupils can't get to school because of blocked roads or buses not being able to get there- and we live in the country. But then again there is the long list of closed schools read out on our local radio whenever it snows so... i can see your point. Mainly i think its because it's just so unusual over here, and noone really knows what to do about it....
Hope this helps xXx

Because these days a lot of teachers don't live locally and they can't get in to school even if the children can. There has to be a certain ratio of staff to pupils.

Also if there are any slippery areas that can't be cleared the school has to close so the children don't hurt themselves.

This is what I was told this morning by a school employee.

The schools close because the mummies couldn't possib;y drive their little darlings in bad weather - the poor little things may get cold getting into the car.

We all come to a complete standstill because its unusual to have such weather and it is never for a prolonged period

If it was for a longer period we would all purchase snow chains for our tyres etc the councils would grit the roads every night etc

school here in the states that have snow close when it snows...its because most of them are "country" schools and the kids live miles from it. Some city schools close because they don't want the kids standing out at the bus stops waiting in the cold weather...I missed school alot in the winter because of "snow days"
