Try 20mule team borax or whatever brand is in the store, its usually on the top shelf in the laundry additive area. Whitens really great!

If the stains have been there your out of luck. Once they have been washed in they are set. Extra bleach may help, but if you have hard water bleach can make whites yellow anyway. There is a product called Mrs (Somebody's name I can't remember) liquid bluing agent. I helps make whites whiter. Follow the directions cloely or you will make blue stains on your stuff.

wash it with bleach in hot water...
