Warriors can't get permanent combat pets. Yes you can use 2 handed swords, you just have to train for them in Stormwind or Exodar at any level for 10 silver. However as Maccagirl says it is a good idea to learn all of the weapons you can for the future. Ask a guard in the city where the weapon trainer is and he will show you. the only kind of pets you can get are the ones that are just there for show, and then some trinkets/weapons summon extras that help you in combat, but that's not until later.

THE OFFICIAL WoW SITE SAYS:
"Warlocks and Hunters can get permanent pets. Priests can control humanoid monsters as a pet for a limited amount of time. There are other ways to get pets. For example, Engineers can construct pets. There are items that players can find that create a pet for a limited amount of time. Players can also buy non-combative pets that are purely for show."

That should answer your question. By the way, just to let you know Warriors can use all weapons except wands. Have Fun!

if your a lvl 10 night elf hunter or lvl 10 dwarf hunter u get a pet then, but warriors dont get pets unless u buy the ones with the big cool-down limits pets that you can make with engineering or pets from the Ah people found on defeated enemies and you can learn 2-handed weapons at any time you just need 10s and you need to go to Stormwindin the Trade District at the weapons shop to buy the skill.

Warriors cannot tame pets to do battle with them. If you take up engineering - when you're a much higher level (and you're engineering is higher level) you could make dragonlings and a few other pets that will help you battle for a few minutes. You can however buy level 1 pets that don't really do much, but they look cute: cats, owls, moths, cockroaches, etc. (what type of pet you could buy depends on your race and where you are: nightelves have an owl salesperson in darnassus, humans have cats, etc.) - you can also buy these pets in the auction house.

you can train in different weapons in all your faction's major cities: there are trainers in darnassus, stormwind and ironforge - its usually worth learning all of the weapons you can - since you never know what you might want to use weapon-wise in the future.

You can't get a pet that fights like a hunter or warlock, however you can buy decorative pets in most of the large cities.

You need to find a weapon trainer to learn two-handed weapons. Again they are in the large cities, like Darnasus. Additionally, you can ask the trainers, about what other trainers teach.

Hey mate The problem is you haven't trained in that weapon, If you travel to Undercity. Once there CLick on a guard npc and ask about "Weapon trainer" follow the arrow and train in 2 handed swords shouldn't be a problem :) Oh. and it will cost 10 silver :) Good luck in game :D
