If you are not talking electric heat then air conditioning is usually the worse energy hog.
You also have to consider climates different than the norm. If you live in a cold area that doesn't get much summer need for cooling then heat is the worst. If you live in a tropical area with no heat usually needed than air conditioning is the clear winner. My answer was based on a "four-seasons" location where both hot and cold are problems.

usually Air conditioning but the question is relative. If you are cooling a room from 80 to 78 it would cost less than heating a room from 60 to 70.

Dpends on what type of each you have. A heat pump is very efficient, but around here you are more likely to have electric wall heaters. Central air is pretty costly to run, but around here all that is typically required is a window unit or swamp cooler. No one can say based on the factors you stated.

Depends on your SEER rating of your system and climate and also thermostat setting. Also if you are running a heat pump for heating. The cost will be the same as your cooling. The only difference is how you set your t stat.

In general it is less efficient to cool a space than heat it. A lot has to do with climate, 'r and k' factors, and lastly that electricity is less efficient at cooling and heating than other forms of energy.

That all depends on your outside temperature range. Depending on that you may run the heat only a little or a lot and you may run the AC only a little or a lot. In some parts of the country like Ohio it may be necessary to do both.

The answer to your question depends alot on the climate where you live, how much (in terms of degrees) cooling or heating is required, the cost of such in terms of kilowatt hours of electricity and/or fuel and the amount and quality of insulation in the home.

Close to the same until the temp goes below 50-40 degrees. Then the air handler says it is to cold for the Freon to work right, then the electric accessories heat begins in the air handler.
