Does the low temperature given for a day (let's say Monday) mean "the lowest temperature on Monday", which should be Monday morning, or is it actually "the lowest temperature overnight Monday night", which probably actually occurs Tuesday morning?

Example
Sun Hi/Lo 80/60
Mon Hi/Lo 70/50
Tue Hi/Lo 80/60

When is it 50 degrees? Mon morning or Mon night (really Tue morning)?

The minimum temperature for the day most frequently occurs two or three minutes after sunrise on the day for which the forecast is issued. Forecasts will specify the time period covered and it will be the minimum temperature in that time. Thus if the forecast minimum is given for Monday, it will be the lowest temperature recorded on Monday from midnight to midnight - which will often be just after dawn.

Usually minimum temperature occurs just before the sunrise. So it is monday's morning temperature only.Somtimes due to heavy rain or snow in the daytime, the temperature may go down below the previous night minmum temperature. Then it is called DAY MINIMUM.

That would be the lowest temperature on Monday morning. 24 hour high/low temps are reset at 12AM, when the day changes.
