Yeah that's normal.
You can expect all sorts of crazy noises to emanate from your bubba right up until he or she starts talking.

Your child is just exercising his/her vocal chords and lungs.

Expect a mama or a dada any day now!!

my son is 13 months and he stared growling around 6-7 months as well. I wouldn't worry too much it could be a mixture of things teething, growing pains or as others have probably told you s/he could just be exercising their vocal cords.
Around this age babies start to pick up little things you say and do and start to copy. this is all they are trying to do but are just not quite there yet. Everyday my little one comes out with something new that sounds like a proper word but it is still just noises.
If they carry on maybe they are trying to tell you something like they want attention or are hungry.

What ever you do don't worry about it ,as it;s perfectly normal for babies to be weird and do their own thing

My six month old has been growling since four months. Soemtimes she sounds like a little monster. I love it. They experiment with thier voices. It's also thier way of talking since they don't know how to talk yet. She can be very loud. When she gets frustrated her voice gets deeper and louder. Sometimes she does these great big shreeks. Mostly when she is playing. Just wait, soon enough, those sounds are going to be words! I can't wait!

err.. unless you've give birth to a wolf then I'm not sure... no I'm just kidding. I'm not sure what you mean by groaning and growling but a child of that age will make lots of new and mysterious sounds so yes im sure this is pretty normal. If your still not sure confide in your nanny or GP.

If your baby is not in pain (and you'd know if your baby was) then I reckon its fine.

Mine is the same age and makes some very odd noises, little squeaks and growls. I think that he's just exercising his vocal cords and is playing with new sounds that he can make with his voice.

sure! like most babies his age, he's trying to figure his lil mouth and tongue out! Making different noises at this stage is a milestone that all babies should go thru. My 6 month old daughter does the same thing. Nothing to worry about!

If your baby looks content, then it's normal. They start learning speech by practising noises and sounds. They seem to practise one noise or grunt for a week or so, and then move on to another!

If your baby looks uncomfortable, in pain or in any way ill at ease, it could be something else. In that case seek a doctors advice.

I have a 7 month old, she growls to register her disapproval! I think they are experimenting with what noises they can make, so unless you think she is unwell or in pain, I would say it is normal. Mention it to your HV when you next see them for peace of mind.

I think your baby is probably feeling the pangs of teething.
While he/she is making this noise..It's helping to put some pressure on the gums and so easing the pain.
