There are two types of carriers: the CV(S) has a larger than normal shuttle bay on each side. The CV(P) has individual 'pods' for the various small craft to be stored in so that they can launch by simple opening the exterior doors to their pods rather than being transported from the hangar to the elevator. In comparing the two types, I've come up with the following six characteristics:
-Shipboard weapons
-Simultaneous launch/retrieval
-Ease of launch/retrieval
-Hull integrity
-Ability to continue launch/
retrieval operations when damaged
-Flexibility in carrying various sizes and types of small craft

My question is two-fold: 1.) can you think of any of the potential advantages to having one type or the other in addition to the six I have listed here? 2.) which type would have an advantage in each category and why?

1. Additional characteristics to consider:

Maintenance: CV(S) would have the advantage of localized servicing. CV(P) would require larger crew to maintain separate pods, service the craft in the pods, including fuel and re-armaments

Storage: CV(S) could have all parts, fuel and armaments kept near the shuttle bays. CV(P) would require much more transport time, equipment and crew even with multiple depots.
CV(S) disadvantage here is storage and transporting craft to launch area.

Weight: CV(S) could be a lighter carrier.
CV(P) would need a lot more armored doors to protect all the individual pods. That extra weight might affect speed and would certainly affect fuel and range.

Crew: CV(S) would require less crew. That in turn means less provisions, less weight, less fuel or more range.

2. Category comparisons:

a. Shipboard weapons - Advantage CV(P)
The larger than normal shuttle bays on the CV(S) would restrict placement of shipboard weapons, whereas on the CV(P) weapons placement could be situated between pod doors.

b. Simultaneous launch/retrieval - Advantage CV(P)
All undamaged pod doors on the CV(P) could be launching or retrieving their ships simultaneously, whereas on the CV(S), the ships would have to be taking turns even if (with the extra large size) several could be launched or retrieved at the same time.

c. Ease of launch/retrieval - Advantage CV(P)
CV(P) ships would be operating independently, whereas
CV(S) ships would have to moved into position or moved to maintenance/storage when retrieved.

d. Hull integrity - Advantage CV(P)
Much more risk to hull integrity with the CV(S) if bay doors cannot be closed due to damage, as well as more risk of enemy weapons fire coming into the bay, whereas, on the CV(P) (assuming each individual pod is securely separated from the interior of the ship), damage to pods would not compromise the basic ship integrity.

e. Ability to continue launch/retrieval ops when damaged
- Advantage CV(P)
With only 2 bays, the CV(S) could easily be crippled, whereas with the CV(P), ships could continue to launch or return.

f. Flexibility in carrying various sizes and types of small craft
-Advantage CV(S)
The CV(P) would be restricted to the craft that fit the size of the pods. There could be several different size podbays to accomodate different craft, but that also limits which bays craft can return to if damaged, whereas the CV(S) can accomodate various size craft more easily with the extra wide shuttle bays.

I enjoyed thinking about this and speculating. Thanks for the question. I'm guessing your writing.....hmmmm.

1). Weight, maintenance
2.) The only advantages/disadvantages I see are for the CV(P). It would have a stronger hull because of individual bays and better operational ability if other bays were damaged. However it would have a weight and maintenance disadvantage.

Shadowmarch, by technique of all money owed I see, is organic fantasy. Your book shop would not distinguish between both usual sorts of speculative fiction. Lord Loss is horror, IMO. that's in the route of fantasy than technological information fiction nonetheless, because that's obviously an option international with demons and werewolves and stuff and there is not something i visit work out that is technological information fiction inspite of it being a cutting-aspect society. IMO the authentic border between technological information fiction and fantasy is crossed by technique of thoughts like megastar Wars. that's equivalent factors technologies and mysticism. likely why that's categorized "area opera" quite than both technological information fiction or fantasy. Edit: technological information Fiction - technological information fiction is a kind of fiction coping with the effect of imagined ideas in technological information or technologies, regularly in a futuristic placing. Exploring the consequences of such ideas is the classic objective of technological information fiction, making it a "literature of recommendations". technological information fiction is largely in line with writing rationally about option opportunities. it really is corresponding to, yet differs from fantasy in that, interior the context of the tale, its imaginary factors are commonly obtainable interior of scientifically commonplace or scientifically postulated guidelines of nature (nonetheless some factors in a narrative may nevertheless be organic imaginitive hypothesis). fantasy - fantasy is a kind of fiction that makes use of magic and different supernatural phenomena as a first ingredient of plot, subject, or placing. Many works interior the kind ensue in fictional worlds the position magic is complication-free. fantasy is often outstanding from technological information fiction and horror by technique of the expectancy that it steers sparkling of (pseudo-)medical and macabre matters, respectively, nonetheless there is a great deal of overlap between the three (that are subgenres of speculative fiction).
