When building the Parthenon the architects discovered that if they were to make each of the columns and walls perfectly straight, from a distance it would seem as though it was falling in on itself. Because of this all of the columns and walls are slightly bowed on angles which are the a mirror image on the other side of the parthanon.

This is why, from far away, the parthanon still seems perfect.... which is actually an optical illusion.
