.MP4 files are video files. If you buy a video in the iTunes Store, it will only be able to be played on an iPod and the computers that you specifically authorize your iTunes account to. Those video files are protected. If you plan on buying videos from iTunes (and music), your best bet is an iPod. Remember, you will need the video iPod to be able to play the .MP4 files. The video iPod is the bigger iPod. The small iPod (the Nano) and the super small iPod with no screen (the Shuffle) do not play video files at this time.

If you are just talking about MP3 and AAC audio files, you can use an mp3 player or iPod for those. However, if you buy the music from the iTunes Music Store, again, it is best to have an iPod just for ease of use and play of the files.

iPod plays mp4 music and other formats of music but mp4 players only play mp4 files. That means if you have CDs that came out before the iPod came out, those CD files will be not be mp4. I would buy the iPod because it plays old audio files but if all of you music will come from iTunes, buy the mp4 player.

It's really not any different because that's the format for the iPod. MPEG-4 Format. But I suggest you get a name brand MP4 Player. Such as Apple iPod, Sony PSP, or another alternative music/media device.

P.S: The MP4 format is NOT an audio file it's a video file compressed to fit on flash media drives.

mp4 is another name for a wav file, and it's very similar to mp3. There is no difference between an mp3 player and an iPod because an iPod is an mp3 player. They play mp4's, too. Also, I don't think a device that only plays mp4's exists.

An iPod is far more advanced than a mp4 player, that is if you're talkin about iPod Video. iPod Video is capable of storing up to 20,000 songs (80gb), 6 hours of video (80gb) and images. The only thing iPod fails to win over the mp4 player is it's size and weight.

mp4's are exclusive to i-tunes. You may be asking about an mp3 player.
If you were to purchase an mp3 player you will not be able to play songs purchases from i-tunes store. if you were to purchase an i-pod, apple has included softward to convert all other formats of music. my vote. go with the i-pod. i'd get some other opinions as well.

Nothing. iPod is just the name for Apple's MP3/MP4/wav music player.

At my gym, you can tune your MP3 player to the TV stations and hear the shows you're watching. My friends with IPODs can't do that. (Maybe newer ones have that feature, I don't know.) But, I love the FM radio feature on my MP3 player for that reason.
