I am sick and tired of receiveing junk mail and yesterday I found a credit card solicitation in my LOCKED mailbox that had been opened with a letter opener. I do NOT NEED or want this junk and certainly do not want someone stealing stuff to mess up my credit and identity

The Direct Marketing Association has a list like that. Here is a link to that service to get you off their members' mailing lists http://www.dmaconsumers.org/offmailinglist.html

You can also write to the three credit agencies to tell them to mark your account as not accepting unsolicited inquiries by card issuers.

Nope, the US Mail is a fee-based organization, so anyone who pays the requisite fee can send anything non-hazardous to anyone. Now, there is a website you can go to that will get your name off the pre-approved credit card mailing list called optoutprescreen.com. It'll help your credit rating, too.

Did you ever try to stuff it into a plain envelope and address it to whoever sent it? but don't put postage on it. Most big companies will find it inconvenient to pick up postage due mail.
