yesterday I asked a question about the fact that governer Perry of Texas wants to require girls from age 12 to get an HPV vacine. I think this is repulsive. I see no reason why a 12 year old girl would be having sex. And if she is, she hasn't been raised right. I guess I offended someone on her when I called her what she was but really, who on here thinks it's o.k for a young girl to be engaging in sex? There is no reason for a young girl to contract and std.

From what I understand, these drugs are to prevent cervical cancer, and are most effective if given to a female BEFORE she becomes sexually active. One article recommends the treatment can begin as early as 9 years old. The idea, then, is not to encourage early sex, but to more effectively prevent a disease that afflicts older women.

(Later): I think "Carrie" gave you a very good answer to your question.

I've read a little about this article myself because I am conservative, and was concerned. But after doing a little research I discovered a few things.
1. The mayor is conservative himself, against abortion, and would not be doing this to encourage sex among school age girls.
2. I also learned that this vaccination is a vaccination against a certain kind of cervical cancer and has nothing to do with STD's. Cervical cancer is a scary disease that we all could get regardless of our sexual practices.
3. The reason it is being given to 12 year olds is because it is most effective when given early.

So despite my concerns I am comfortable with it, and think it is a vaccination that is a step in the right direction. I do not believe it encourages girls to have sex.

On a side note, despite my beliefs I have never found it benificial to belittle people with name calling or "truth" saying as some of my conservative friends like to call it. Calling some one "what they are" as you put, and I can only assume you meant whore or slut or something to that effect, has never encouraged anyone to change their lifestyle in the past. Genuine care and concern is more openly recieved and often you may find that the "whore" or "slut" has some very real wounds or guilt that needs healing. Not hate.
