I went right after Carnival one year.. (in march) .. and June the last time.. I spent about the same on the tickets. When I went in march there were practically no tourists since they were all there for Carnival which is in Feb.

Try looking for plane tickets at sidestep.com ... i have found them to be the cheapest so far... wait for the whole page to load though .. it does a search of many flights... you can see the loading process on the left hand side.

March and april because it's after Carnaval and still warm. In some places the rain season start in the end of may - august.

Another good month is September and Octuber, before the summer season not too hot .

Probably April or October/November.

December/January is high season
February/March is Carnavale
July/August is winter school vacations there

prices there are the same except for highs eason december 15th to february 28th and Carnavale.
