My mate proposed marriage first. It wasn't a big huge "get down on one knee and whip out the diamond sort of thing". We'd been in a serious relationship for a while, and one evening while we were out grilling, he said, "So I was thinking that since (insert some personal stuff here) I'd ask if you wanted to talk about getting married."

I said, "Can I think about it?" We had some relationship discussions, and then a few days later, while we were out, I said, "Okay, if you ask me to marry you, I'll say yes."
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes."

Not every woman's dream proposal, but it suited me perfectly:)

I had made mention that I had always wanted to be proposed to in a more traditional way and a week later he got down on his knee and proposed. So, by hinting to him first, that might mean I proposed first, but he's the one that took the step to ask properly. It was really cute. I just love the hell out of my husband.
