Mine have been a lifesaver...

Most of my appliances: hand me downs from when they get new ones.

My house: inherited

My furniture: hand me downs

My previous two cars: hand me downs

They buy stuff for my kids all the time...I rarely have to buy a toy or clothing.

I've never had to send my kids to daycare and very rarely have to get a babysitter (my parents live next door and my dad is retired)

When we go out to eat, they cover the check

Every year we take a family vacation...they foot the hotel and most other expenses.

I've lived a very nice life, above my means of living, because my parents have been so generous. I mean, we (my husband and I) can support ourselves and be fine, but we wouldn't have certain luxories like nice vacations and things if it weren't for my parents. I love them!!
And of course my husband and I do all we can to repay them in a non-monetary way, like mowing their yard, handy man jobs around their house, fixing computer problems, programming their cell phones and VCRs, etc.

I never had a father in my life, so that just cut that down to just one parent. My Mom did help me out because she knew that I paid for my rent and the fact that after paying for that and another bill, I would only have $50 or less in my account. So, she would give me $50-$100 to hold me over to get all the things that I need (since I know how to budget and save). Now, I am 30, and she is gone. So, now it is just me. But, I am grateful she did help me-as an adult-when she could.

No, if your one of the over 25 crowd, we are usually pretty financially set and are helping our parents out if they need it.

My parents don't but my wife is always complaining about not having any extra money to her parents just so they take us out to dinner and buy stuff for her and the kids that she doesn't want to buy herself. I really, really hate that. We're not rich but we have everything we need and then some.

I'm sure they would but I'd be too proud to ask. They give me stuff sometimes and act like it's just something they got at a great price or my mom will give me shoes that she says fit fine in the store but didn't fit when she got home. I think they know all our money goes to kids' clothes and supplies.

Well, my parents are gone now.
But, when my Dad was alive he totally helped me out like about a MILLION times.
Tuition, books, clothes, gas, car loan, security deposits, moving van rentals, my goodness the list is endless.

They did occasionally when I was 25, but that was a long time ago and I'm doing better now.

I'm 34 and my brother is 30 and our father still helps us out if needed. He'll always be there for us no matter what and I'll be there for my children when they get older as well.
