It depends on which one you go to Guernsey have a work permit scheme & Jersey doesn't.I only know about Jersey. The hourly rate is proberbly higher than the UK but the cost of living (food,rent etc) is much higher than UK. But it depends on what sort of work you are going to do
Minium wage is £5.24 at the moment but going up to £5.40 soon.
A Litre of milk costs 92p & a loaf of bread is about 80-90p.
You have to make social security payments of 6% of your wages.
& for tax it is an itis system & gets taken out of your wages each week.
