Walk as much as you can, I know that's a joke when your heavily pregnant, but it did work for my cousin. I was early, but my contractions eased when I got to the hospital, so the midwives told me to go for a walk to the cafe. By time I got back I was in agony and desperate for pain relief!!

Hi, first of all I would say be very careful with the herb black cohosh as it can be dangerous and should be used only under supervision of a registered herbalist.

However the similar homeopathic remdy, caulophyllum, is safe and known to help start off labour or assist with strengthening a very weak or slow labour. Midwife Zita West recommends taking caulophyllum 30c in the last 10 days before your due date in the evening and then take it in 200c form, once a day but you can do this once every two hours for a few doses if needed. I bought mine from www.homeopath.co.uk (note spelling) but you can usually get it from elsewhere also.

Another remedy is to add 10 drops clary sage essential oil to a warm bath, and/or an oil burner, this should help things along.

Good luck.

I know you have probably heard all the old wives tales but i was 7 days over and bored just like you. so i went down the fish and chip shop and ordered a kebab cob with 4 extra portions of chilli sauce. That as well as a very hot bath straight afterwards and sure enough hours later around 2 in the morning i was in labour. I am not saying it will work for you but maybe try a combination of things all together. it's worth a shot

good luck and just think it can't be as bad as mine i was in labour for a whopping 25 hours

relaxing baths! for hours! it really helped me! i also had a sweep done ,didnt think that worked much.If your coming upto 2weeks overdue your midwife will want that baby out so will probably arrange for you to go to the labour ward at hospital and have your water broken ,baby will arive not long after then and ull stay in hospital, that does wonders! raspberry tea is supposed to work but i didnt think it did.goodluck and get lots of sleep as you never know when ur baby will decide to make a apperence and if your tired your labour will exuast you.so warm baths and plenty of rest!

i know this isnt the answer you want to hear, but...nothing really makes labor start. you can try sex (the hormones in sperm can help ripen cervix), or nipple stimulation (releasing oxyctocin), but if your baby isnt ready, nothing will work besides having the doc induce you. i know a lot of women dont like the induction, and dont want to do it 'unnaturally,' but it may be an option for you if youre overdue and want to. i was induced with my son (and am being induced again on monday) and i was happy with my short and to the point labor. the whole thing lasted a whopping 5 hours from first contraction to birth, hearing about labors in the 20 and 30 hours scares me. dont know what else to tell you...hope it works out for you!

I only went over by two days but I started the sex and curries in my last week and nothing happened.

Then I read that fresh pineapple helped to start labour so I tried that and, sure enough, the next day my waters broke! Might be a coincidence, but it's worth a try.....

Good luck!

A few tablespoons of castral( I think that's how you spell it) oil mixed with milk in a glass or 2 and drink it down. It is horrible but it works, My cousin was over due with her son and she had 2 glasses and within 2 hours her contractions started and her son Will was born 11 hours later this had also worked on my sister a few years before my cousin had her son.
If this fails then eat a very hot curry and good luck with the new baby.

Walking, light exercises, have sex, some say Castor oil helps. Talk to your OB/GYN about a stretch and sweep or an induction. I sympathize with you, 3 out of my 4 were overdue. I was only induced for 1 (and truthfully it was my longest and hardest labor).
Hang in there.....it'll be any day now!
Congrats and good luck!!

Poor thing! It won't be long now! Maybe you could pester your OB to induce. ;-) Really, there is no scientifically proven way of inducing labor. You could consult a doula about less traditional methods. One of my friends told me to walk. Another one told me that there are areas in your feet that stimulate contractions if rubbed, so you could get a foot massage. Do NOT try castor oil. It will just make you sick. Another friend suggested black cohosh (spelling?) but I have no idea what that is or how to use it or if it is considered safe.

Just remember most OB's won't let you go more than 2 weeks over your due date because the placenta starts to become less efficient. Just hang in there are keep thinking about the beautiful baby you are about to have!

I was told to try all the things that people have suggested on here and none of it worked for me, i know it's hrd but for some reason or another and no-one actually knows how or why, the baby will come when it's ready, but there is nothing wrong with giving anything a go, good luck xxx

Try getting a chiropractic adjustment. My midwife always sends her overdue clients to a chiropractor, and if they are truly overdue(not just wrong dates), they end up going into labor within 24 hours.
