Burping a baby gets rid of uncomfortable gas inside of them. If you don't do it, it can lead to a very cranky baby for one thing. Once they start crawling around and being active, you can stop doing the burping for them.

Usually about the time they start to sit up by themselves. Burping is necessary to prevent trapped air from causing tummy troubles that you will loudly hear about.

I really didn't think burping babys was necessary, I never burped mine ands she is just fine. She burped on her own if she needed to.

You know, that is a good question! I have a 9 month old and I bounce him on my knee after I feed him a bottle. I still get a very satisfying belch out of him so I keep doing it. Maybe when they stop taking a bottle.

Actually, when you see your 3- or 4-year-old suddenly lose interest in dinner, you can get a pretty big one out of them and sit them back down.
