I find £100 ridiculous to spend on a friend's birthday present, even if you do have the money, even f it's her 18th! At Christmas I have about £20-£30 to spend on about 5 people plus family, and I do fine.

You can find some really cheap stuff that's still a great gift, or even make something. Most people will appreciate a home-made birthday card if a lot of care was obviously put into it.

If making something's not for you, then gift shops are nice places to look for cute little things like purses, ornaments or bits and bobs. If you're looking for clothes, don't go designer, look in small thrift shops and things - my best party dress I found at a dump! (I washed it thoroughly before I wore it!) You never know what you might find, and don't ever feel you have to spend a lot of money.

You said she's funny - does that mean she likes funny things? Maybe a joke book or a comedy film on DVD. If she likes music then a CD is always a good bet. If she has a favourite artist or type of music, or there's a particular CD she wants, then get it! Whatever you buy, you don't have to spend more than £20 at the most.

£100!! Blimey that's generous!!

How about something from net-a-porter in the sale?? OR HQHair.com- lots of designer stuff...

Im guessing you're all about to start going out etc so how about a nice top, handbag and shoes (or just one thing depending on how much you spend!)

With that budget id be inclined to get a few things so that she has lots to open and feels special... If she's into books, get her one or makeup...some nice jewellery?

Or you could try activitysuperstore.com and get her an actual day out (pamper day?).

Or even that could pay for a night out somewhere (like dinner and a show in london etc).

You know her best- anything she's been looking at but 'cant justify it'?

Good luck!

Why not take her out for the day! A nice girlie spa day or paintballing something like that ( depends what she is into ). It would be a nice way to remember her 18th and a little bit different. You could get a photo of the day and give it to her as a little momento aswell!

a cool metal photo frame....and get the jewellers to inscribe your personal message on it...or buy an etching pen (like a security marker) and handwrite it on yourself........and a disposable camera - that way, she can put her favourite pic from her 18th birthday in it and remember you for years to come and smile at your message.
