What's with all the naysayers? If the boy is 10 years old, and wants to do some work, let him find something to do. When I was 10, I was washing cars for the neighbours, dog walking, doing basic gardening tasks... I helped my Dad make trophies, and I sold badges of the latest pop stars to my friends. At 11 or 12 I started to organise 'pre-teen discos' on a Friday after school. Used to get about 50 people paying 50p each - £25 a week in the late 80s was a lot for a 12 year old. Life went on from there. Let him shine :)

Hi,

If your son is handsome, he can be a kid model. That pays good a hour. Or an actor if he has this skill.

Now, remember that 10 years old is still very young. If later he wants to make a lot of money, he should make financial studies to eventually become a banker or so.

But money is NOT the most important thing in this world like plenty of people think. We need money to live of course, but we do not need to have that much of money. Money contributes to happiness, but does NOT replace happiness. If i was you, i would explain certain things and values to my son, you do not want that money becomes the most important value to him, don't you???

Little jobs at this time for a kid, like washing cars or small duties like that for neighbors or so are fine.

If you talk too much money in front of him and he feels you don't have enough, he might feel uncomfortable also and might want to help, unfortunately, at this time, this is not his responsibility, but yours.

Good luck!

Oddly enough, I have a 10 year-old who is very keen on accumulating the coins!

I would recommend you stop spraypainting the sheep - not much money in it, more likely some community service which unfortunately does not pay (same as crime).

Since chimneys are out (agree that also unfortunate as he could fix the crack in ours while de-sooting), and paper-routes are out as I happen to know your 10 year-old's mother has been put off by newspaper headlines "13 YEAR-OLD KIDNAPPED ON PAPER ROUTE!!", then I would stick with most of the above-mentioned ideas within the legal arena, Yvonne's web design especially, and try and up your allowance with simple remedies such as CLEANING YOUR ROOM FOR ONCE!!!!!!!!!

10 year olds are not acceptable for any job, especially not a high paying job. Children are protected by law, and also cannot be held responsible. They're children. Unfortunately! Unless you can get him into TV or modelling, he has to wait until he is older.

How about get him on the PC at home and learn web designing (HTML is simple for a ten year old) or maybe graphic designing (which is fun!). These things pay well and if your son is dedicated to learning the basics, he could go a long way...

Good luck!

Isn't ten years old a little young to be joining the workforce? But , hey that's none of my business. Maybe you could start him off small by getting him to apprentice for someone doing small jobs and learn the ropes of the working world or you could encourage him to be creative and be his own entrepreneur as long as it doesn't interfere with school.

He could mow lawns. My one friend did that & he made like over $100-USD in 1year!

Washing Cars is good too.
Also paper routes aren't that bad either.

He needs to learn to save his money insted of compaininmg that he doesn't have alot of money, and spending it right away. If he saves it, then sooner or later he'll have alot of money, so he can buy something really good. That doesn't mean he has to put his whole earnings in savings, he should just put a good amout away, like 50% or he could go even lower to 20%, each time he earns money.

At least he is thinking about the future. He is a little young for a real job. How about mowing lawns, walking dogs, raking leaves, washing cars, or doing any odd jobs for neighbors.
