I am 19 weeks pregnant and for the past two weeks, it seems like I can't get enough food. For the first 3-1/2 months of my pregnancy, I barely had an appetite. Now, I start drooling at the thought of food. I knew that my appetite would increase, but this is outrageous!! The good thing is, I only eat healthy foods....no junk whatsoever. Has anyone else gone on this binge eating escapade during their pregnancy? I guess I just feel like a pig and need peace of mind. ;)

Don't worry about it, because your baby needs plenty of nutrients to grow. Just remember that a healthy pregnancy diet is different than a standard healthy diet. You need to get more protein (at least 80 to 100 grams a day) and eat enough fat (real fats like butter and olive oil, nothing hydrogenated). Limit sugar and white flour because they will not help your baby and will just put weight on you. I used the Brewer pregnancy diet for my pregnancies. I ate good foods constantly. My husband always joked that he could always find me in front of the refrigerator or in the bathroom. But I gained a reasonable amount of weight that came off within 6 months, and had healthy, beautiful children.

An increased appetite is normal, and if you are eating healthy than you've got half the problem down already. Some women go through months without being hungry, and after some time can't get enough, and again later on aren't hungry again. Think of it like a growth spurt, your body is telling you it's needing more energy, so keep it up with healthy foods, and if you can or are worried that your packing on pounds, spread your meals out. Cut each one in half so instead of 3 big meals you'll have 6 smalls ones with snacks in between. This way, your still eating enough but not all at once. Your digestive system is already slowing down and bigger meals will be a problem sooner or later. Eating small throuout the day helps curve hungry also, even when your getting the same amount as you were before.

Congrats!

I'm only 13 weeks and I am already doing that. It's like I stay hungry constantly. Up until last week I couldnt keep anything down at all and now I can't get full. I know it is normal for our appetites to increase a lot but I guess the timing is different for everyone. I'm sure everything will be fine. At least you are eating healthy foods so there is nothing bad there. Eat when you feel like it and stop when you feel full, just don't eat until you get sick and it will be fine.

Don't worry about it. Listen to you appetite. Your baby needs the food so eat away.... As long as it is healthy food!!
You should worry only if your doctor tells you that your weight is a problem. A normal weight gain for a pregnancy is around 30 to 35 pounds total. Talk about it with your doctor.
If you gain too much weight, you should know that breastfeeding your baby helps a whole lot with losing the weight afterwards.

It just gets worse! I have always had a somewhat healthy diet... well that is until I got pregnant. I am now 35 weeks along and my sweet tooth has been kicked into overdrive!!! I dream about powdered doughnuts and candy! I have also gotten to where I am constantly eating! If I see someone with food I want just snatch it from them and run! So don't worry it is normal!

wow this is funny. i am 19.5 wks along. yesterday i could NOT get full. and i was eating a pretty normal day's worth of food, but i was starving and ravenous. it must be a change at this time, because i remember when i was about 20 weeks along with my first pregnancy, getting so cranky because i was so hungry. i guess i could just say to try to eat healthy: fruits, nuts, fresh veggies, lowfat and low calorie foods, and try to get a lot of protein at your meals. good luck!!!!

It is 100% normal. Your baby is going through a growth spert. You are eating more because the baby needs more to build. Congrat's that you are eating good foods and that is wonderful. Congrat's on baby and hang in there.

I did, but I was further along than you are. I ate everything in the house, even stuff I don't normally eat, like burritos, ramen noodles, everything. The good thing is your eating healthy.
